|
President Jean Summerbell called the meeting to order at 7.40 p.m.
Present:
Present:- Jean Summerbell, Gary Powers, Joe Lemmer, Marilyn Harriman, Irene Brock, George Brammer,
Sandi Cole, Debbie Melnick, Anna Hudson, Colleen Stone, Whitney Snyder, Joan Petrus.
Apologies:
Beth Mead, Jim Pietrak, Connie Vaughn, Tony Lefkowicz.
President’s Report:
Marilyn Whisnant has resigned as Secretary for health reasons. Anna Hudson took the Minutes.
Secretary’s Report:
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
Marilyn presented the Treasurer’s Report for August 31, 2006. The primary expense was to Lawn Barber
for a major clean up and maintenance of the common areas and three entranceways. We still do not
have an answer for the extremely high water bill for the month of May. Irene Brock will research this
with the Western Virginia Water Authority. There is a request from Gary Powers for the Web site annual
internet provider expense. Marilyn has agreed to serve another term as Treasurer.
Committee Reports
Beautification:
Irene reported that Lawn Barber has been doing well tidying up and mulching the common areas. There
has been no word from Mr. Shrewsbury regarding his mowing at the entrance to Rt. 220 and Crossbow.
We have not received a bill from him recently either. Jean will call him to check on his status. If he is
unable to continue, Irene will ask Lawn Barber to include this with their maintenance.
Club Liaison:
Debbie Melnick suggested that the Club contact new members when they join the Homeowners
Association, as a way to increase Club membership.
Government Liaison:
Joe reported that there is a drainage problem at Deerfield. The County staff is to work with Ben
Chapman from VDOT and Old Heritage to fix this problem. It has been announced that a Super Wal-Mart
will built in the Clearbrook area. It is uncertain at this time what will replace the old store at Hunting Hills
Plaza. There is a State of the County meeting on November 18th at 7:30 AM at the Tanglewood Holiday
Inn which is open to anyone interested in attending. There is no new word on the widening of Rt. 220,
nor on I-73. There is a proposal by the developer of Slate Hill to extend the development along the
ridge line all the way to the Roanoke Athletic Center.
Membership Report:
Beth Mead has requested Reports from the various committees to include with the invitations to
residents to the General Meeting in November.
Security & Safety Report:
Gary presented the report for the third quarter (July - September). There has been a rash of vandalism
on Hunt Camp in new construction homes. Crime Watch increased patrols and has contacted parents of
young suspects. One burglary was reported at 5200 Hunting Hills Drive. There have been a number of
suspicious incidents, particularly in the Peregrine and Fox Ridge areas. There have also been two auto
accidents, one on Fox Ridge and one on Crossbow. As a result, Roanoke County Police has increased
patrols, with more speed checks and have even suggested bike patrols to extend coverage. The police
have definitely increased their presence in Hunting Hills with many speeders being ticketed.
The Web site continues to be an effective communication medium. The Board recommended more
neighborhood alerts on the Web site to warn residents of possible trouble areas.
Streets and Lights:
No report.
Old Business:
George discussed the entrance situation at Starkey Road. He showed the Board the latest drawing of
signage approved by Delta Dental. To build this type of sign, much dirt and many utility lines would have
to be moved to accommodate the new proposal. If this latest sign is not approved, it will mean Old
Heritage and Delta Dental going to court over the matter. Old Heritage is not opposed to the latest
proposal. Gary asked if the new sign could be lighted; visibility at night is a concern, as the proposed
sign is quite low to the ground. A motion was passed to get the cost of the current proposal, with
lighting, and the cost of moving the utility lines. The motion was passed. The site will remain as it is in
the interim.
New Business:
The slate of officers for 2007 was discussed.
The Executive Board will consist of:
President – Gary Powers
President Elect – Whitney Snyder
Treasurer – Marilyn Harriman
Secretary – possibly Linda Haberman (Sandi Cole will confirm this)
Any retiring district representatives were asked to find their replacements and let Beth Mead know
ASAP. Existing representatives were asked to find people to fill vacancies in their own districts.
Any Other Business:
The General Meeting will be at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15th at the Hunting Hills Country
Club, following a social at 6.30 p.m. Gary will ask Mike Wray to be the Guest Speaker. Details of the social
were discussed and Debbie will try to get the club to reduce their bar prices for the meeting. Each
attending resident will receive a complimentary drink ticket. There will also be a cash bar.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 PM.
