Committee Reports
Beautification:
Jean Summerbell reported that Dr. James Okeyo, our Horticulturist, had suffered a severe stroke in July
and was still paralysed on his right side. Jean was in the process of finding a replacement. In the
meantime, several members of the Hunting Hills Garden Club had worked for several hours weeding
and planting fall ‘mums in the common areas at the entrances and the triangle. They requested that the
HHHA send a check based on the hours worked to Dr. Okeyo on their behalf. Jean handed details of
expenses and receipts for plants to Treasurer Pam Ammar for reimbursement.
George reported for Connie Vaughn on the stone entrance sign at Starkey Road. The County have
completed their survey of the proposed site. The existing sign is in a right of way. The new stone sign
will have to be placed behind a 30ft. easement to allow access to utility lines. Gerald Alman & Al
Williamson have now determined the site. The sign will be constructed of stone with a granite center
fixture for the neighborhood name & logo. Permits have been issued by Roanoke County and the work is
supposed to be carried out in October.
Club Liaison:
No report.
Government Liaison:
Joe Lemmer reported that I-73 is still on indefinite hold as there is no money available. Home Depot
hase acquired the land across from Lowes and will be starting construction in the near future. There is
continued development near Clearbrook. The Roanoke County are aware of the complaints regarding
Slate Hill but say that all zoning requirements have been fulfilled so there is nothing they can do. The
County is looking for a new site for a library. The new flour mill is still in the planning stages. There will
be a new housing development on Buck Mountain Road, next to Parkway Place. All the homeowners
along Fox Ridge and Peregrine Crest Circle who overlook this new development have each purchased
100ft of land behind their properties.
Membership Report:
Beth Mead reported that we had four new members and she is working towards getting all new
residents on a list.
Security & Safety Report:
Gary Powers reported that the new “No Solicitation” signs had been erected on the Neighborhood
Watch signposts.
There have been five accidents on our streets recently. The County will be erecting “No Outlet” signs at
Hawkbill Circle (a dead end road) to try to stop motorists from speeding down and crashing into the
house just over the hill at the bottom of this cul-de-sac.
There have been over 300 hits on our web site so people have been showing interest
Streets and Lights:
Sandi Cole reported that street lights had been fixed where necessary but it sometimes required
several calls.
Old Business:
The drainage problem along Deerfield will be addressed by the golf course as part of its upgrading work
on #14 & #15 holes in the near future.
New Business:
George discussed arrangements for the AGM.
The Annual General Meeting will be at Hunting Hills Country Club on Tuesday, 15 November. A social
hour from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. will be followed by a brief meeting. Board committee leaders should
send their reports to Beth Mead for inclusion in the general circular to avoid reading reports at the
meeting. Gary suggested that we ask Rick Crozier of the Roanoke County Police Department to be the
main speaker at the meeting. Pam brought up the issue of dogs,(safety, leash laws and clean up) and it
was decided that this could be answered by Rick after his presentation on safety. George would like a
more rapid response to “Breaking & Entering”. Gary would like to be a pro-active President and will
send letters to residents.
George will give a short general report on changes in our neighborhood. He will ask for vacancies on
the next board to be filled.
