Hunting Hills Homeowners Association
                Neighborhood Watch Program
CURRENT NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH ALERTS:
" NO SOLICITING" SIGNAGE has been installed at Hunting Hills neighborhood entrances on Hunting Hills
Drive at Starkey Road, I-220 and at the Crossbow entrance.  The signage is installed to provide a
deterrence to unwanted solicitations and to provide law enforcement additional authority to prosecute
violators.

There have been a number of unlicensed solicitors in our neighborhood seeking work (tree trimming,
house repairs, etc.) door-to-door. Be wary of such individuals, especially those without a  business
license who may be casing the neighborhood for other criminal purposes.

Under Roanoke County Ordinance No. 1789, sec16.1-5, 6-17-77, Roanoke County Code Sec 19-6: It shall be
unlawful for any person to engage in solicitation upon any premises or residence located thereon, if such
premises or residence is posted against solicitation by means of a notice prominently displayed, upon
which is printed the legend "NO SOLICITORS". Persons in violation of this may be guilty of a Class 4
misdemeanor.  Contact the Roanoke County Police below if you encounter any such solicitaions.

    notified
Dear Hunting Hills Homeowner;

Hopefully you have noticed Neighborhood Watch signs at each of the entrances into Hunting Hills. Your Hunting Hills
Homeowners Association has launched a Neighborhood Watch Program that will help control crime in our area. What
is a Neighborhood Watch Program? It is an association of neighbors who:

  •  Look out for each other’s families and property
  •  Alert the police to any suspicious activities or crime in progress
  •  Work together to make their community a safer and better place to live.

Reports have proven that active Neighborhood Watch Programs substantially reduced incidents of burglary,
vandalism and larceny. By creating a greater awareness and encouraging the reporting of suspicious activity, it
serves not only as a deterrent to criminals, but increases arrests and convictions due to the availability of
eyewitnesses, provides residents with information to promote further protection and promotes “neighborliness”.
However, in order for it to be successful, it requires your participation in three areas:

ORGANIZE

The first area is the ORGANIZING of a Neighborhood Watch Program. Your district representatives also serve as
Neighborhood Watch District Captains. These District Captains will serve to relay information to members in their
district, keep up to date information on members in their district and encourage residents to be alert, observant and
involved.

DETERENCE

The next area is in DETERRENCE, or in other words, making your own property difficult for criminal activity.  In a
previous mailing, you were provided with suggestions from the Roanoke County Crime Prevention Division that
outlined some common sense, basic steps you can take, such as: installation of deadbolt locks, keeping shrubbery
trimmed near windows, installation of an alarm system, leaving lights on while you are away, making your home looked
lived in while on vacation. Did you know that if you notify the Roanoke County Police that you are going to be away on
vacation, that they will ride by your house periodically and check the security of your property? Our Neighborhood
Watch signs at the entrances are further indicators of our commitment to a safe neighborhood.

REPORT

Roanoke County Police Magnet with phone numbers are available for you to place near your telephone. When you
see suspicious activity or a crime in progress, notify the Roanoke County Police. Also let your Neighborhood Watch
District Captain know as well so that they might possibly notify your neighbors as well. For instance, there have been
a number of individuals in our neighborhood soliciting work (tree trimming, repairs, etc.) door-to-door. Be wary of
individuals without a business license who may be casing the neighborhood for other opportunities.

We are also working with the Roanoke County Police on several other crime prevention initiative, to include;
increased patrols, personal property registration events (bicycles).

Your Hunting Hills Homeowners Association Continues to work on your behalf. We appreciate your confidence and
support.
Here are stats - Hunting Hills for May

No other incidents
Several false alarms from alarm systems

Above is the incident report for May. No details yet on the burglary but a report was taken, W
e
will
include details when we receive.

Burglary = entry into a building with intent to commit theft.
Larceny = does not require entry into a building.  Cars are not buildings thus theft from a car is
larceny.

In our neighborhood most crimes are “crimes of opportunity”. The weather often plays a major
role.  Some, consider the possible attempted abduction of last year,  are less weather sensitive
