Hunting Hills Homeowners Association
HUNTING HILLS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING
Tuesday, July 26, 2005
President George Brammer called the meeting to order at 7.30 p.m.

Present:
George Brammer, Gary Powers, Jean Summerbell, Jim Pietrzak, Leah Russell, Joe Lemmer, Pam Altizer,
Linda Wilkes, Connie Vaughn, Sandi Cole & Barry Brown.

President’s Report:
George said that with house prices in traditional retirement areas such as Florida rising at such a rate
and even those at Smith Mountain Lake becoming so expensive many retirees are looking to places like
Roanoke so that the equity in their homes in the North East will cover the cost of a retirement home and
a retirement income. As such Hunting Hills is becoming a very desirable neighborhood.

Secretary’s Report:
Jean Summerbell distributed the minutes of the last meeting which were read and approved as written.

Treasurer’s Report:
George reported the checking account balance and the Dreyfus account balance as of 26 July, 2005

Committee Reports

Beautification:
Connie Vaughn reported that as it has proved impossible to contact Gerald Allman, the stone contractor,
we are engaging the services of Al Williamson of the sign design company to act as General Contractor.
He will be responsible for hiring a stone mason and he is actively obtaining the necessary permits etc.
from Roanoke County. George said that he hoped we would have the new sign at Starkey Road entrance
before the Annual General Homeowners Meeting in November.

Jean Summerbell reported that Dr. Okeyo, our horticulturist, has been working on our common areas.
Mulch has been purchased and some plantings. More will be done after the sign is completed. Any
unauthorized signs posted on our common areas will be removed promptly.

Club Liaison:
George reported for Jean Brammer that the Country Club has retained the majority of last year’s
membership of 750 and the current membership is nearly 800. The Club seems to be flourishing.

Government Liaison:
Joe Lemmer reported that he had contacted Mr. M. Ray at Roanoke County. There is nothing new in the
pipeline. The new flour mill replacing the one near Memorial Hospital will be built beyond Starkey Road
but the exact site has yet to be decided. I-73 and the widening of 220S are both a long way off. The web
site for further information is mwray@roanokecountyva.gov

Membership Report:
Beth Mead was absent – no report.

Security & Safety Report:
Gary Powers reported that he was updating our web page regularly. There had been more than 200 hits
in the last month. He would like to include a link with the Country Club and George said that Jean
Brammer would co-ordinate this.       (huntinghillshomeowners.org)

Gary circulated his proposal for “No Solicitation without a permit” signs to be added to our existing
Neighborhood Watch signs. After reading the proposal the Board approved the purchase and erection
of these signs.

Streets and Lights:
Sandi Cole reported that street lights had been fixed where necessary but it sometimes required
several calls.

Old Business:
George reported that Bo Willis of Old Heritage said that the widening of 220S will be in 3 to 5 years. Bo
will inform us when VDOT has a meeting on this issue. Old Heritage & the Club will be making changes to
Holes #14 & #15 soon which should improve drainage along the ditches by Deerfield Road.

New Business:
There have been complaints about the brush cut by VDOT left on the roadsides. George will contact
VDOT to see who is responsible for its removal.

George passed out correct copies of the By Laws for the Board.
Pam Ammar, the Treasurer wishes to leave the Board soon. George said there are vacancies on the
Board in Midlands & Mountain Districts.

A new slate of officers needs to be presented at the next Board meeting. George called for volunteers
from the existing Board members and will canvass those not present.
