Hunting Hills Homeowners Association
HUNTING HILLS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING
Tuesday, April 12, 2005
President George Brammer called the meeting to order at 7.30 p.m.

Present:
George Brammer, Gary Powers, Jean Summerbell, Pam Ammar, Gary Phillips, Jean Brammer, Leah
Russell, Joe Lemmer, Pam Altizer, Linda Wilkes, Linda Harman, Jack Lanford, Sandi Cole, Barry Brown &
Beth Mead

President’s Report:
George said that with new houses and new residents, the views and aspects of the neighborhood were
changing. However, this is a dynamic community and we must be aware of these changes and make this
a good place to live, to protect our property values.

Secretary’s Report:
Jean Summerbell distributed the minutes of the last meeting which were read and approved as written.

Treasurer’s Report:
Pam Ammar reported the checking account balance and the Dreyfus account balance as of 31 March,
2005.

Committee Reports

Beautification:
Jean Summerbell reported that we will be asking the stone contractor to erect a stone and granite
entrance sign on the right side of the Starkey Road entrance and a small stone wall on the left side to tie
in and co-ordinate the entrance. The contractor will be asked to give a definite starting date and full
written estimate as soon as possible. When the walls have been erected the bedding areas will be
landscaped again. Dr. Okeyo, our horticulturist, has been working on our common areas. There is money
allocated for plants and mulch in this year’s budget.

Club Liaison:
Jean Brammer reported that the Country Club is continuing its present membership drive until the end
of April. There are currently 748 members. There are some applications in progress and the Club Board
would like to exceed their goal of 755 members. Our property values are influenced and enhanced by a
healthy Club membership.

Government Liaison:
Joe Lemmer reported that he had contacted Jeff Eccles at the VDOT Salem office. The current proposed
route for I-73 is beyond the appeals process. The air pollution in Roanoke County is lower than the
National average. The latest date for construction is 5 to 10 years. The widening of Rte. 220S is far more
imminent and will have a significant impact on homes nearby.
George mentioned that he had talked with County officials about Slate Hill. There was a discussion
regarding our wish to be more involved in matters affecting our neighborhood. An influential local
attorney is moving into Hunting Hills and we would hope to involve her at a later date, perhaps as a
board member.

Membership Report:
Linda Harman reported that the Directory was mailed to all Homeowners on 18 March, 2005 – two weeks
ahead of schedule and $33.00 under budget. As of 25 March we had 336 members (80%) George & Jean
Brammer are sending a welcome letter to new residents. Linda Harman & Pam Ammar are retiring from
this committee and Beth Mead & Jean Brammer are taking over. George thanked Linda & Pam for all
their hard work.

Security & Safety Report:
Gary Powers reported that he had launched our web page in late January. He plans to add another page
with minutes of Board meetings. E-mail addresses have been set up for all Board members and Gary will
help anyone who needs assistance with this. (huntinghillshomeowners.org)

Streets and Lights:
Sandi Cole reported that street lights had been fixed where necessary. It was suggested that residents
contact VDOT directly if there is a build-up of leaves in ditches and culverts following heavy rains.

Old Business:
George reported that he had written a letter to Old Heritage regarding the proposed expansion of Rte
220S and voicing our neighborhood concerns. It will affect the residents on Archer & Falcon Ridge
especially. There will be a new stoplight by Outback Steakhouse.

New Business:
Gary Powers said that residents should be more aware of individuals soliciting in the neighborhood,
often a prelude to criminal activity. He will explore the feasibility of adding “No Solicitation” signs to our
existing Neighborhood Watch signs.

Gary Phillips reported that the ditches and culverts on Deerfield were wearing away with the rip rap
being washed away in wet weather. Turkey Hollow and Deerfield have not been adopted by VDOT as
there is no turning radius for a school bus.  George & Jean Brammer will write to Old Heritage& VDOT
regarding this excess flooding, which will only get worse when Rte 220S is widened and the watershed
is affected. George will remind Old Heritage that they need to be fiscally responsible for maintaining the
land that they own, as a matter of safety.

There have been two calls complaining of an excess of vehicles around some houses on Doe Run.
Residents will be asked to contact the Police if there is a noise issue.

Bonnie Willett is resigning from the Board and will need a replacement for the Midlands District.
George will arrange for the next meeting in about three months. The meeting was adjourned at 9.10 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Jean Summerbell  - Secretary
